Why do you keep a pet?

I already know the answer in some cases why they keep a pet. I do not think I can call them pets as their only requirement is to have a dog to watch their house. There is never a time they will make them a part of their family.

These dogs are kept in kennels and only fed to keep them alive.

A pet on the other hand is considered a part of the family. Time is spent with them, the kids in the family play with them.

Some people keep pets for companionship. Maybe they live alone, and so they own pets so that it won't be like they are the only creatures in the home.
