Have you ever pretended to have a skill or interest in order to please someone?

Back in the early 2000s, I joined a community where half of them roleplayed. I decided to claim I could roleplay so I could find some friends. The truth came out pretty quick but I did learn as I went. The community fell apart not long after and I wound up leaving those friends after it came out how toxic they were to outsiders.
