Elite games

Some games have this tag of being the game played by the 'elite'. For example, think about golf. Its a game which is exclusively played by the ultra rich and golf clubs make it a point to increase their fees, impose dress codes and restrict access by various means into their premises.

Or, one can see a similar pattern in pool games for which the person has to pay a fee to play. Do you think its time to democratise such games with elite tags? One way I can think of to start is when credit card offers club memberships for free. What other steps can we take?
