Talking about family relationships there is a paradigm shift in what was and what is now We are a total of 70 living members - siblings, nieces, nephews, children, grand childlren and even great grand children (my sister has them). They are all scattered and those thast I meet personally are not even 10
When this happens we have to survive with help from neighbours and friends and they become our family.

What is your situation?

My grandfather from my father side were 4 brothers and one sister and we are more 150 in total. W e still have a connection. except for small kids we all recognize each other and gather during the October festival, popularly called Dushera.

That is a good thing that they all gather once a year. Are they all in one country unlike our family? Many are in the US and a few in Australia and a couple or two in the UK and even in India they are in different States.

Why do you need your friends and neighbors to stand in as family when you already got 10? I'd be okay with that number if it was me. Besides, there's no way you can keep in touch with all your extended family members.

Hardly anyone from those 10 will be there when I most need them but neighbours and friends do rally round.
